Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble is seeking 3 emerging composers to submit proposals for 3 short commissions

May 22, 2019

PRSf commisioned composers 2019/20 announced!

Hard Rain SoloistEnsemble is offering 3 short commissions, with funds from PRSf Talent Development Partnership, to emerging or early-career composers from Northern Ireland. After much deliberation by the jury, comprised of the HRSE players, the 3 commissions were awarded to the following composers:

Alan Perrin, for his proposed work for flute and violin that will exploit the instrument’s similar range, thereby contrasting their timbral characteristics and will use a hybrid notation explored in previous pieces.

Amy Rooney, for Attrition, a proposed work for clarinet, violin and cello that will move from a focus on the notion of attack and pressure moving towards less extreme sounds and eventually multiphonics and air tones. The piece will employ aleatoric elements.

Richard McReynolds, for his proposed work making use of the electronic analysis of rhythms of speech in poetry. It will be written for clarinet, violin and cello.

We look forward to working on all these new works and offering their premieres in our 2019/20 Season.
